العمل في مجال حقوق الإنسان أمر ملئ بالمواجع والآلام، فكل يوم تقريباً نسمع عن ضحية من ضحايا ممارسات وسياسات الدول، تشعل شرارة الغضب والحزن في داخلنا، فتنفجر مشاعرنا دون جدوى ونصاب بالاحباط الشديد واحيانا نغرق في دوامة الاكتئاب. وهذا كان الحال معي عندما سمعت عن قضية هادي سعيد المطيف الذي مازال يقضي عقوبة بالسجن بدأت منذ خمسة عشر عاماً عندما قال "صلي على ذكر النبي" وهو لم يتعدى الثامنة عشر عاماً. سجن في عام 1992 بعد ان فسر البعض قوله هذا على انه اساءة للنبي، ليفقد هذا الشاب السعودي مستقبله وليحرم من حياة طبيعية يعيشها غيره من جيله وليمنع من ان ينمو نمواً طبيعياً يمر بالمراحل المختلفة للإنسان والتجارب الانسانية الطبيعية التي جميعنا مارسناها.

هادي سعيد المطيف مازال محبوساً حتى الآن وطبقاً لبعض الشهادات فهو يتعرض لانتهاكات جسيمة، منها الحرمان من النوم والتعرض للاعتداءات البدنية. المطيف في السجن منذ خمسة عشر عاماً بدون قرار واضح وتم الحكم عليه في محاكمة لا تتسم بأي معيار من معايير المحاكمة العادلة حيث منع من حقه في الدفاع. المطيف مواطن منتهك حقه مثل آلاف المواطنين الآخرين في عالمنا العربي!!

فماذا كان المتوقع مني بعد ما سمعت هذه القصة المأساوية؟ هل مطلوب مني ان استمر في الحياة أنظر إلى الأمور بعين عمياء وكأني متأكدة بأنها حكواي وليست وقائع، أو مقتنعة بأن هذا يحدث هناك وليس هنا، أومتوهمة بأن هذا لن يكون مصيري أنا أو أولادي أو أحفادي؟ لا !! ببساطة إنني انسان أشعر بآلام الغير، أضع نفسي محل الآخر، أتخيل حياتي وراء القضبان هكذا لمجرد جملة أو كلمة قلتها قبل ان اصل سن الرشد!!! المطيف حاول الانتحار عدة مرات وتدهورت صحته. هذه نتيجة متوقعة لشخص عنده اليقين بأن نهاية هذا العذاب لن يكون إلا بالموت. هل هناك بديل آخر واضح؟

المطيف ضحيتنا جميعاً. فمعاناته رسالة واضحة لنا بأن لا نتعدى الخط الأحمر. راح المطيف وراحت حياته لنتعلم جميعاً درساً قاسياً: لا تتفوه ولا تفكر ولا تمزح ... نحن كلنا عبيد؛ حيوانات يجب ترويضها لتخدم الأقلية ذات السلطة والقوة ... ليست لدينا مصالح. مصلحتنا هي خدمة النخب السلطوية!!

وكلما اسمع عن مأساة مثل مأساة المطيف وغيره اتذكر رواية عبد الرحمن منيف، الشرق المتوسط ، والبطل الذي استنتج في النهاية اننا لا نملك سوى روحنا وافكارنا. قد يزج الآلاف في المعتقلات حيث نفقد سلطتنا على جسدنا ولكن يظل الفكر الحر طليق حياً عبر الزمن.

Working in the field of human rights is a painful experience. Nearly everyday we hear of victims of state policies and practices, instigating anger and sadness within us, exploding our emotions in vain, leading to a strong sense of frustration and occasionally we drown in our depressions. This was the case when I heard of Hadi Saeed Al-Matif who is in prison since 15 years ago when he said a statement, interpreted by some as an insult to the Prophet. This young Saudi man, 18 years old at the time, lost his future when he was imprisoned in 1992. He was deprived of living a normal life that his peer is living, from growing a natural growth passing through the different human stages and human experiences that we have all been through.

Hadi Saeed Al-Matif is still behind bars. According to some statements he suffers gross violations, including deprivation of sleep and physical abuse. Al-Matif is in prison since 15 years without a clear sentence and after an unjust trial as he was deprived of his right to defence. Al-Matif is a violated citizen just like thousands of others in our Arab World.

What was expected from me after I heard this tragic case? Am I expected to go on living giving a blind eye, believing that these are stories not realities, convinced that this happens there not here, imagining that this will not be my destiny or the destiny of my children and grandchildren? No!! I am simply a human that feels the pain of others. I put myself in others' shoes and imagine my life behind bars simply because of a statement or a word that I have said. Al-Matif attempted suicide several times and his health has deteriorated. This is an expected result for a person who is sure that death alone will end this ongoing torture. Is there any other clear alternative?

Al-Matif is our victim. His suffering is a clear message to all of us so as not to cross the red line. His life has been wasted for us to learn a lesson: do not speak, think or even joke … we are all slaves; we are animals to be tamed to serve the authoritative and powerful minority … we have no interests. Our interest is to serve authoritative elites.

Whenever I hear a tragedy as Al-Matif's and that of many others, I recall Abdel Rahaman Moneif's novel, Al-Sharq Al-Motawaset and his character who finally concluded that we do not possess but our souls and thought. Thousands could be taken to prisons where we lose power over our bodies, but the free thought remains free, surviving time.
