اليوم في العاشرة مساء يمر عامين كاملين في أول مارس/آذار 2005 علي اعتقال الناشط والمحامي محمد عبو في مجال الدفاع عن حقوق الإنسان، كعضو قديم في الهيئة الإدارية لجمعية المحامين الشبان وكعضو في المكتب التنفيذي لمركز تونس لاستقلال القضاء والنقابة. هو أيضا عضو مؤسس للمنظمة الدولية لنصرة المساجين السياسيين وعضو في الهيئة الوطنية للحريات في تونس حكم عليه بالحبس ثلاث سنوات وست أشهر سجن في قضية ملفقة تعود وقائعها إلي عام 2002 إلي ما قبل ثلاث سنوات علي تاريخ المحاكمة لتحويل الأنظار عن الأسباب الحقيقية لمحاكمته حيث تمت محاكمته بسبب نشر مقالين .

الاول بعنوان أبو غريب العراق وأبو غريب تونس" يجري هذا المقال مقارنة بين وضع السجناء في السجون العراقية والسجناء السياسيين في تونس. ويستنكر عمليات التعذيب الممارس في السجون.

والمقال الثاني بعنوان "بن علي- شارون" في مناسبة توجيه الدعوة لشارون لحضور قمة المعلومات ".

ويتعرض عبو وعائلته لكل إشكال الاضطهاد من منع للزيارة وظروف غير إنسانية بالإضافة للمضايقات التي تتعرض لها عائلته وخاصة زوجته السيدة سامية عبو التي كلما حاولت زيارته يتم إيقافها وكل من معها في الطريق عدة مرات مع ما يرافق ذلك من استفزازات واعتداءات لفظية .

والمنظمات الموقعة علي البيان تؤكد على ضرورة إطلاق سراح محمد عبو وجميع مساجين الرأي والتعبير بوصفه مطلبا لا يحتمل التأجيل خاصة وان جميع الأعراف الدولية تقضى صراحة بحرية الرأي والتعبير .

At 10:00 pm tonight, 1 March 2007, it will be the second anniversary of the arrest of Mohammed Abbou, the Tunisian Lawyer and human rights activist involved with the Young Lawyers Association and Tunisian Centre for the Independence of Judiciary and the Bar Association. Abbou is also one of the founders of the International Institute for the Support of Political Prisoners and a member of the National Council for Liberties.

Abbou was sentenced to 3 years imprisonment after a case going back to 2002, three years before his arrest, was framed against him to divert attention from the real reasons. He was arrested and imprisoned because of two articles he had written.

The first, "Abu Ghraib Iraq, Abu Ghraib Tunisia", was a comparison between the status of prisoners in Iraqi prisons and those in Tunisian prisons. In it he condemned torture that was systematically practiced against political prisoners. In his second article, "Ben Ali - Sharon", he drew similarities between the two leaders after Ariel Sharon was invited to attend the WSIS.

Abbou and his families still suffer different forms of violations, including preventing his family from visiting him. His family, particularly his wife, Samia Abbou, constantly face serious harassments when they are on their way to Le Kef, where he is imprisoned. Samia's car is constantly being stopped and all those accompanying her and herself suffer verbal intimidations and aggression.

The undersigned organizations confirm the necessity of releasing Mohammed Abbou and all other prisoners of opinion. This is an urgent demand that should not delayed any further especially that all international norms and treaties clearly stipulate the right to freedom of expression.
