Children are being slaughtered while we silently observe

Another day passes by, I wake up, drink my cup of coffee, have my shower, get dressed, go to work.
In another continent; another country, somewhere far away from home, scores of people are being killed. Children are assassinated in cold blood and there is nothing for someone so powerless like me to do.
In the past few days over a 100 people in Gaza have been killed by Israeli forces. Israel is defending itself, they tell me. But can someone explain to me how a 12 years old girl could have threatened the life of Israelis? Or was it Salsabeel Abu Jalhoum, the 21 months infant, that was the threat?

An Israeli soldier was left behind by his Golani comrades in Gaza this weekend after the brigade completed an operation in the Strip. The soldier was found over an hour later, exhausted and frightened, some 700 meters within Palestinian territory.

"The incident could have ended in a kidnapping. There is a chain of intolerable mistakes here," a military source told Ynet on Sunday.

UPDATE on young man detained by Israeli soldiers

Last month i posted an email I recieved from my friend John Perkins, a freelance photograperh. A friend of his in Palestine was kidnapped by Israeli soldiers. He went to Nablus to see the family and see if there is anyway he could help. He sent me his diary for the few days he spent trying to accompany Fadhi to Cairo through Jordan. This was in February. Unfortuantely Fadhi was arrested by the Israelis.

John will be interviewing some people and hopefully writing a story.

Young man detained by Israelis for no reason

This is an email that was forwarded to me by a friend. The email was sent by John Perkins, a British photo-journalist. Please give it utmost priority. We have to end Israeli brutality and human rights violations. (Please note that I have made slight editing).

Dear Alex,

At least 30 Israeli soldiers came to my friend's house outside Nablus at about 2am about a week ago (the email was sent on 11 February 2007), and asked his mother where her husband and oldest son were. They were staying with his grandfather, so the soldiers took Shadi, her second son, 20, instead. He's being held at Huwara army camp near Nablus. The only one to have seen him is a lawyer, who was able to talk to him for 3 hours.
