أيامنا الحلوة Our beautiful Days

I am always proud to be an Egyptian and will always be but sometimes things happen to further consolidate my love and passion for my country. Life is strange with its surprises. For me, most of its surprises are unpleasant, but the one I encountered on Friday night uplifted my mood so much that I haven't stopped smiling. Yet my heart aches. I miss my country so much. I miss its people, history, walking downtown late at night, my friends .. everyone. But what has been nagging me was my lack of impulsiveness. I who consider myself so spontaneous have failed to satisfy my curiosity to learn more about a random person I met coincidently.

On Friday night I have changed my rituals and instead of hanging out with my work colleagues I went to the west end for a change. I should have known better.

لن أكون في مصر يوم 6 إبريل لأشارك في الاضراب ولكن قلبي معك يا مصر ومع كل مصري يعاني من هذه الأيام التي اتمنى ان تشهد في نهاية هذا النفق المظلم نوراً يضئ لنا مستقبلنا ويحيي آمالنا ويعيد لنا مجالاً لنحلم من جديد ونسعى لتحقيق احلامنا الجميلة

بحبك يا مصر اوي

Disappointing Film: The Kite Runner

Please, do not watch the film “The Kite Runner” without reading the book first. I was extremely disappointed at the film, which rid the story from all its human emotional complexities. The book captures your attention and intrigues your curiosity from the very first page. Disappointingly, the movie does not give you that. If there would be one word to describe the film it would be “flat”.

Islington Police vs Cairo Police

I was meant to write this post a month ago when I was mugged walking down the road to my home in London. One night, as I was on my way home, I could hear two men walking behind me:

"Just fucking do it!", I heard one say to the other

"Shut up and do it".

As I could hear the footsteps getting closer, I realized that I am on the verge of being attacked. While hoping that its just not one of those crimes when someone would just stab you, as is the case with so many murders in London, I started studying my options. I had none, but to leave my handbag on the ground and just walk. I thought that would be just ridiculous. My ultimate aim was that I would not intimidate them, hoping that it would be just limited to the bag being snatched off my shoulders.

تأملات السيد يس عن محمد حاكم

كتب السيد يس المقال المرفق بالأسفل عن محمد حاكم، وقد حدثني اصدقائي الأعزاء عن ما حدث له يوم تأبين حاكم. فقيل لي ان السيد يس لم يستطع التعبير عن نفسه وخدعته قوته فلم يتمكن من التحكم في مشاعره وبكى ... عرفني محمد حاكم على السيد يس وربما زيارات حاكم للأستاذ القدير في الأهرام هي كانت عنصر مهم لتواصل محمد معي ففي النهار الذي تلى معرفتي بحاكم رأيته صدفة في مطعم الأهرام وكان جالس مع السيد يس وكانت أحلى الصدف في حياتي

أعلم كم أحب السيد يس حاكم كما أعلم كم أحب حاكم السيد يس ......
